Our brief chat with Mitch Mathias•
How did you get involved in modeling?
An artist friend of mine asked to draw me nude a few years ago. From there, I started modeling for two different schools or studios in New York doing nude life drawing modeling. I found it really interesting and challenging to do something outside my comfort zone and to be part of a creative process with artists. From there, it sort of snowballed and I started working with photographers via Instagram, and eventually got signed with an agency in 2016.
Could you share some positive experiences you’ve had modeling?
The best part has been the opportunity to work with some amazing, creative people. I’ve also had the chance to travel and visit places I’ve never been before – like Austin or New Orleans. And I even shot a music video a few years ago, all because of Instagram and modeling.
You’ve been a life model for some talented artists; how were those experiences? And do you paint or draw at all?
I think everyone should pose nude at some point in their life. It’s very challenging to sit still for so long, but I find it very meditative and I like the challenge of enduring a tough, but beautiful, pose. Also, I love working with a variety of artists and seeing how they capture you differently based on perspective and technique. I don’t personally draw, so it’s rewarding to be part of a process, even if I’m on the other side of the paper.
What would your dream modeling job be?
I’d love to do a book at some point.
Do you have a day job that you’d like to share?
I’m a fundraiser for an LGBTQ nonprofit.
What’s your favorite part about it?
I love working with donors and helping them align their interests – and money – with where they can have the most impact. I enjoy managing relationships and figuring out what makes people “tick” in order to maximize their giving to us. I also love hearing stories about why people donate and what things inspire them to do so. Like art, the reasons and stories behind the photographs and people vary, and I’m naturally very curious about that.
We noticed you post hiking photos; how often do you hike and what’s your most memorable experience hiking?
I love being outdoors. New York has some surprisingly good hiking not too far away, though my favorite hikes have probably been in Costa Rica or Panama.
You also have a lot of beach pictures on you Instagram. What’s your perfect beach day like?
I love weekends on Fire Island. But I also love day trips to Sandy Hook or Jacob Riis Beach. Invite your friends and pack a bag that includes food, water, music, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses and a beach blanket (I use an old sheet). And some reading material ☺
What other activities do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy working out, going to live shows (concerts), and reading.
Do you have a favorite 90s boy band, singer, or other type of artist that you love rocking out to at home?
I love music, but I’m not a huge fan of the 90s. I’d probably say the Cranberries were one of my favorite bands from that time, and I still get nostalgic when I hear their music.
What’s something you’d like people to know about you?
I’m actually fairly shy and private; the Instagram persona is just part of who I am.
What are your favorite styles of underwear to wear and why?
I like briefs because you can move in them and they’re still sexy. For me, comfort comes before appearance.
What do you look for when buying underwear?
Affordability, fit, fabric.
And what’s your favorite color for underwear?
I gravitate towards neutrals, especially dark colors – grays, black, blues. Classic.
Finally, what do you think of Hunt Underwear?
The briefs are comfortable and sexy. They fit great and have nice stretch to them. Will definitely wear to gym and around house.
Thanks for chatting, Mitch! We love your interest in the arts, philanthropy, and being outdoors. We are so happy to have you as part of the extended Hunt Underwear family!
